The concept for the cover of The Vanishing Half is that it would mirror itself from front to back. The front and back represent the twin sisters; Stella, and Desiree Vignes. One sister would represent the back cover which is mostly white. The reason for this decision is the one sister who runs away decides to relinquishes her African American identity. So, the front cover which is mainly black would represent the other sister who decides to keeps her African American identity.
